Obituary for Leslie Harry & Louisa Kathleen Fitzwilliam

FITZWILLIAM: Louisa Kathleen
at the Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay on Monday, May 23, 2016
Kathleen (Davies) Fitzwilliam was the beloved wife of Leslie Harry Fitzwilliam of Lindsay.
FITZWILLIAM: Leslie Harry
at Caressant Care Nursing Home, Lindsay on Sunday, August 14, 2016.
Leslie was the cherished husband of Kathleen of Lindsay.
Parents of Diane Schurman (Michael) of Beaverton and Mike Fitzwilliam of Oshawa. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Steven Fitzwilliam (Amber) of Williams Lake, B.C., Kerri Fitzwilliam (Ryan) of Oshawa, and by their mother Susan Fitzwilliam (Ron) of Oshawa. Both were born in London, England and met prior to WWII at a social club. Kathleen was a champion swimmer who competed for her club around England and in Holland before the war. She was also the Executive Secretary for a major British drug company in London during the war, living through the Blitz, the buzz bombs, air raids and rationing. Leslie completed an engineering degree and was conscripted, serving more than four years with the British Army engineers in Africa and Burma. Upon his return, they married in 1948 and emigrated to Canada in 1952, raised two children and lived and worked in Toronto (Agincourt) until retirement from Leslie’s own engineering company in 1995. The “Glen Watford Drive” gang and the Agincourt Lions Club became their surrogate families. They treasured the many friendships and activities they shared. Kathy and Les loved their gardens, their backyard pool, music (Les was an excellent piano player), and were prize-winning ballroom dancers. They were always very involved in things and Les became known for his quirky sense of humour and industry. They moved to Beaverton (Edengrove) in 2005 to enjoy the peace and quiet of country life. Recently they lived at William Place Retirement Residence in Lindsay, and Les spent the last two months at Caressant Care Nursing Home (McLaughlin). The care they received at William Place and Caressant Care was exemplary. We thank the staff of both places, as well as the outstanding care given by Dr. Laudanski and staff while in Beaverton. A celebration of life service will be held at the Mangan Funeral Home, Beaverton, on Thursday August 25, 2016 at 1 P.M. with visitation from 12 noon. If so desired memorial donations would be greatly appreciated by the family to the Beaverton Lions Club. Online condolences are welcomed at www.manganfuneralhome.com
