DEL
My thoughts drift
To my fathers fallen brother.
My eyes close
I try to picture their youth.
The shared smiles of intimacy
As worlds are explored.
Shared hardship and shared laughter
The older brother looking back
The younger ones looking forward
I picture them hunting, fishing,
And driving cars through fields
In reckless teenage abandon.
Unlike many,
My Uncle never forgot how to play.
Always an inventor
And unparalleled entrepreneur
He cast his bright personality
And friendly smile on all.
He was rich with family
From children to siblings and a wonderful wife
Who meant more than the world to him.
My drifting thoughts consider
The boundless energy
My father’s brother held.
To imagine that it is at end
Brings greater sadness to me
Then I can bare.
So I will not!
Rather I picture him
Fishing with his maker.
Telling off colour jokes,
Bragging of his wife,
His children
And his brothers and sisters.
My Uncles energy
Cannot be stifled
It can carry on through us
Because we remember
