June's visit to England 1971

I am one of June's cousins (the youngest) in England and first met June in 1971 when she made her first visit to England since she returned to Canada at the age of twelve.  I had recently learned to drive and was able to pick up June from the airport and deliver her to our aunts in Liss, where she had done a lot of her growing up.

My Mum and Dad (June's Uncle Charlie) and I met up with June at Liss during her stay and we also had a get together with other members of the family keen to see her again, or for the first time.

June and I went on a trip to Wales and the West Country during which I got to know her and learnt a lot about her past life and the family in Canada.  I had a few vague ideas about my Dad's time in Canada and was very grateful for all June's stories.  On one memorable night during that trip we stayed in an hotel opposite Wells Cathedral, June in a four poster bed and me in a small divan.  I awoke in the night to see June jumping around on the end of the four poster chasing off a 'ghost' she had seen.  She recalled that night in 2007 when my husband and I visited Canada and Olive arranged a meeting.  June didn't know who she was meeting and it was a total surprise for her.  I have sent a photo of the moment to Heather (it wasn't on the computer).

The photos, which I have uploaded are of June at some gardens and a beauty spot with my Mum and Dad in 1971.

June came to England again in 1973 and was able to attend my wedding.

I shall be thinking of her and the family on 26th and will always remember her with affection.
